Yoga

I found yoga many years ago as a way to release stress and find reprieve from the daily anxiety I was experiencing, during incredibly challenging times. I expected only to find a physical stress release, but like many others I found a practice that strengthened both body and mind. It helped release me from a cycle of survival mode, and allowed me the space to reconnect with myself. I undertook my yoga teacher training in 2015 predominantly to deepen my own practice, not knowing if I would ever teach, but it ended up having such a profound effect on me that it continues to shape my path today. Through my teacher training I experienced first-hand the stillness that can be cultivated through a sustained yoga and meditation practice, and found my greater purpose to teach and share these practices. I allow my personal practice to be shaped by what nourishes me most on a day to day basis, whether that be an asana practice, or simple breathwork and meditation.

I love creating mindful yoga classes that incorporate slow flow with breathwork and meditation. We have so much over stimulation in these modern times, so the classes are designed to down regulate the nervous system and allow for our bodies and minds to experience the relaxation response.

Yoga Slow Flow with Nic

Breath

I first discovered breathwork when in Bali. I had always known about Pranayama in relation to yoga, but I did a 30 minute breathwork session with my yoga teacher and I felt an immediate positive shift in my energy and state of mind. I noticed that I breathed very high and quite shallow, so this access to deep breathing was a revelation. 

We take around 20000 to 30000 breaths in a day, and each breath is an opportunity to shift your emotions and energy. A good quality breathing pattern affects homeostasis in all parts of the body, and can create calm, clarity and lowers levels of stress hormones like cortisol.
